LNG Hub Weekly Roundup 16/3

CWC is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak and its effects to health, safety, and travel mobility. The wellbeing of our participants, readers and staff is our utmost priority. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

We know that with the current Coronavirus crisis, many of you will be working from home. So, whilst we can’t solve the bigger issues, we thought a roundup of the best posts in LNG & Gas we’ve read this week would help keep you entertained in isolation.

First up, we learn that LNG exports have increased during the first month of the year, data from the Department of Energy shows. In its monthly report, DoE said that a total of 249.5 Billion cubic feet of LNG have been exported during January.

Another piece of encouraging news for the industry this week came from Total and their North Sea discovery, demonstrating that a recent exploration strategy is working.

On Tuesday, Novatek announced that the company has reached a milestone of 1 trillion m3 in cumulative natural gas production since commencing its natural gas field development programme.

If you’re looking for something to get your teeth stuck into, this interview with Didik Sasongko, president-director and CEO of Badak LNG is well worth a read. He speaks about Indonesia’s drive towards being LNG-powered and solutions for small-scale LNG distribution.

In further news, LNG spot prices in Asia rose for the second week, with low LNG prices attracting buying interest.

Finally, we look ahead in hope as the global regasification capacity has reached a high of 824 million tonnes per annum, showing the sector is well placed for a resumption of normal trading activity in the months ahead.

We hope that these articles take your mind off the current situation, even if just for a minute. Stay tuned to the LNG Hub over the next few weeks for some more content, and we’ll even be sharing some working from home tips from our events teams.
